Most people know about adrenaline and cortisol in the context of stress, but the vagus nerve is equally important – and chronic stress actively suppresses its function.
How the Vagus Nerve Works
The vagus nerve carries information in both directions: from gut to brain and from brain to gut. It informs the brain about the state of the digestive system, immune system, and major organs. In return, it regulates heart rate, digestion, and the inflammatory response.
